Rooted in Sustainability

In the fall of 2021 the Cactus Roots family arrived in Shiner, TX, and put their roots down into 26 acres of south-Texas history. Sadly, the preceding 60 years of that history had involved conventional commercial cattle ranching which had depleted the soils and stripped the land of life.

Certain that there had to be a better way to feed families and fields, the Cactus Roots farmers determined to build a sustainable operation - one that put more back into the land than it took from it.

Enter regenerative management.

Working with the best principles of permaculture, silvo-pasture, and mob/ AMP grazing, Cactus Roots Farm is now more than five years into using multi-species management to transform bare, lifeless soils into healthy, productive tilth.
